My review on the opening weekend of the local footballing season:
“I spent Saturday at Hardenhuish Park seeing the Hawks being held to a 0-0 draw away to Chippenham. The pitch and the referee would be the two talking points of the game. The referee would be consitently inconsistant on both sides whilst the grass was so long Alan Titchmarsh was about to film a documentary on there.
Elsewhere Bognor showed real grit and doing what I call ‘bognoring’ the art of scoring a late winner. Having been pegged back to 2-2 up stepped Ollie Pearce to fire home a marvelous free-kick.
Baffins are top of the Wessex Premier League, even if by virtue of playing more games than the rest of the league. They started the season at Love Lane on Tuesday night in some style as they shocked Petersfield with a marvelous 3-1 win. With them not playing in the FA Cup this season they faced Hamble Club and holding to a 1-1 draw.
Finally for Pompey the Pitman machine just keeps rolling a brace for him and if he and Conor Chaplin keep firing this season they may just not be a threat to play-off push by why not the title? This time of years for dreaming right?”
